About KYBELLA®
KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) injection 10 mg/mL is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.”
KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment for adults that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile-whether you have a moderate amount of chin fullness or a bit more.
How does Kybella work?
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.
When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
Is it painful to receive Kybella?
A topical anesthetic and ice is used prior to injection. At the time of injection, there is an initial sensation primarily described as pressure and stinging at the site of injection but only lasts for a few to several minutes. The sensation will subside after about 10 minutes. In the weeks to come you may experience tenderness, mild bruising or a numbing sensation but all of which will subside.
How many treatments will I need?
KYBELLA® injection is administered by subcutaneous injections (maximum of 50 injections) into submental fat at approximately 0.2 mL per injection (up to a total of 10 mL), spaced 1 cm apart using a 30-G (or smaller) 0.5-inch needle. Up to 6 single treatments may be administered at intervals no less than 1 month apart.
